Depending on the translation, the hedge of protection that God provides for His children can be compared to a protective wall, a fence, or even a force field that shields our lives, property, and possessions. In point of fact, Satan appeared before God to accuse Job of being devoted to God for the sole purpose of pursuing his own self-interest.

Job 1:8-12  “‘Does Job fear God for nothing?’ Satan replied. ‘Have You not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out Your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face.’ The LORD said to Satan, ‘Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.’ Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.”

That is an incredible realisation! The knowledge that God has a hedge of protection accessible for His children, which nothing and no one can breach without His consent, is a wonderful source of comfort and assurance.

Throughout the Bible, we are often reminded that we should not place our faith in man or even in our own capabilities or resources.  All of these are not enough to provide adequate protection and fulfilment. We draw our power and our supply from God, who is our ultimate source and resource!  We are safe and secure in Him! This is our safe haven.

Proverbs 21:31  “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD.”

Psalm 108:12-13  “Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless. With God we will gain the victory, and He will trample down our enemies.”

When it came to Job, God allowed Satan to test his faith by removing a section of the hedge that he had previously placed around him. Job’s remark highlighted the fact that he was not a follower who was willing to be flexible. His adoration of God was not solely based on the fact that God had rewarded him. Indeed, Job continued to worship God even after the hedge was partially lifted. In spite of this, God’s hedge continued to centre on Job, and His hedge of protection is a component of the inheritance that all God’s people receive!Give thanks to God today for the protection He has provided for you, your family, and everything you own.
This is a blessing from God to all those He calls His own.
