In a world that glorifies busyness, the concept of stillness can feel quite foreign. We are constantly rushing from one task to another, filling every moment of every day with endless activity. Yet, the Bible reminds us that stillness is not weakness; it is a posture of trust and strength in God.
Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”
This verse is not just an encouragement, it’s a directive from God. When we pause, when we are still, we can then acknowledge God’s sovereignty over our lives.
Stillness does not mean doing nothing. It means intentionally making space for God in our hearts and our minds.
Jesus Himself modelled this practice, often withdrawing to solitary places to pray (Luke 5:16). In those moments of quiet, He sought the Father’s guidance and strength. How often do we take time to be still before the Lord?
When we embrace stillness, we gain clarity. The noise of the world fades, and we hear God’s voice more clearly. It is in these sacred pauses that our faith is strengthened, and we are reminded that we are not in control – God is.
Whether it is five minutes of quiet reflection or an entire day set aside for prayer, let us cultivate the discipline of stillness. It is in the stillness that we find strength, peace, and renewed purpose.
