A man once entered a vast, dark cave carrying a single candle. The darkness around him was thick, overwhelming, and complete. As he walked deeper, he could barely see the walls around him. The deeper he went, the more he realized how small his candle was in comparison to the darkness.
He paused, feeling insignificant. “What difference can my little light make in this great darkness?” he thought.
But then something surprising happened. As he held up the candle, its tiny flame illuminated the rocks, the pathway, and the walls of the cave. Though the darkness was immense, it could not overcome the light. Even a small flame made a difference.
The man smiled and continued forward, his little candle guiding the way.
In today’s world, darkness seems overwhelming. Sin, suffering, hatred, and despair fill the headlines. It’s easy to feel like our individual efforts to share Christ’s love are too small to matter.
But Jesus tells us otherwise:
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Even the smallest light can drive back darkness. A simple act of kindness, a word of encouragement, a prayer for someone in need – these may seem small, but they reflect Christ’s love in powerful ways.
John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
No matter how great the darkness, it can never extinguish the light of Christ. The enemy wants us to believe that our efforts don’t matter, that we are too small, too weak, too insignificant. But the truth is, every believer carrying the light of Christ makes a difference.
Think of a single candle in a dark room. Then imagine hundreds, thousands, or millions of candles. Together, they drive away the darkness completely.
You may feel like your light is small but never underestimate what God can do through you. Keep shining. Keep sharing Christ’s love. Keep walking in faith. One candle in the dark makes a difference. Imagine what happens when we all shine together.
