Psalm 46:10  “Be still, and know that I am God!”

Have you ever felt like you were at your wit’s end?  Maybe you are there right now.  You hit a dead end in your marriage, your career, your finances, with your kids, or some sinful habit that you just can’t seem to break free of even though you know it’s self-destructive. The Psalmist has a powerful promise for calming our troubled hearts. “Be still, and know that I am God!”

‘Be still’ literally means ‘Take your hands off! Relax!’ We like to be ‘hands-on’ people and manage our own lives, but God is God, and we are but His servants. In other words, stop trying to control everything and surrender your life to God’s care and control.

If you really want a grasp hold of this promise, check out the different translations of the verse. Here is just a few I came across:
xxx

  • “Calm down and learn that I am God!” (CEV)
  • “Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God.” (GW)
  • “Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at Me, your High God, above politics, above everything.” (MSG)
  • “Stand silent! Know that I am God!” (Living)
  • “Be quiet and know that I am God.” (ICB)
  • “Stop fighting, and know that I am God.” (TEV)

Could it be that you are fighting a battle that you were never meant to fight?  You are trying to accomplish in your own strength what only God can do in His mighty power?

Stop fighting and surrender to God’s power. Just be still and see what God does at your wit’s end. The Bible teaches us that the battle is the Lord’s, but the victory is ours!  Just check out the next verse in Psalm 46 …

Psalm 46:11  “The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

Complete surrender to God, is the only way you will rise above the pressures, problems and challenges of living in this broken world.
