In a world filled with distractions and challenges, it can be easy to lose sight of what truly matters. The pressures of everyday life can make us focus on temporary concerns – our careers, relationships, and personal achievements. While these things are important, Jesus calls us to live with an eternal perspective.

In Matthew 6:19–21, He warns, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” (Matthew 6:19–20). This passage encourages us to prioritize the things of God, not the fleeting pleasures of the world. Earthly possessions and achievements are temporary, but the rewards of following Christ are eternal.

Living with an eternal perspective means keeping our focus on what lasts – our relationship with God and the advancement of His Kingdom. In Colossians 3:2, Paul writes, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Our hearts should be anchored in the promises of eternity, not in the ever-changing circumstances of this life.

An eternal perspective also shapes how we handle difficulties. Trials and suffering may seem overwhelming in the moment, but when we view them in light of eternity, they lose their power to discourage us. Paul reminds us in Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

When we live with eternity in mind, we become more generous, more compassionate, and more focused on eternal rewards rather than earthly success. Our actions and decisions are motivated by the hope of spending eternity with God, and this changes how we live today.
