Extending grace is one of the hardest but most powerful things we can do for another person. Jesus set the ultimate example when, hanging on the cross, He said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34).

Holding onto unforgiveness weighs us down. It keeps us trapped in bitterness and prevents us from experiencing the fullness of God’s love. Ephesians 4:32 instructs, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Forgiveness is not excusing the wrong, nor is it forgetting. It is choosing to release the offender into God’s hands and freeing ourselves from resentment. When we forgive, we reflect Christ’s love and make room for healing.

Many struggle with forgiveness because they feel it lets the offender off the hook. But forgiveness is more about setting yourself free than justifying another’s actions. Jesus calls us to forgive not just for others’ sake, but for our own hearts as well. Who do you need to forgive today? Ask God for the strength to let go and experience the freedom that comes with extending grace.
