We live in a time when personal opinion often holds more weight than objective truth. In such a climate, Christians are challenged to remain grounded in the unchanging truth of God’s Word.
Jesus declared in John 17:17, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” Our culture tells us to “live your truth,” but Scripture teaches that there is only one truth – and it’s not subjective. It is found in the person of Jesus Christ and revealed through the Bible.
The danger today isn’t just disagreement – it’s confusion. When even some churches compromise on biblical doctrine to appear more accepting, believers are left uncertain about what to stand for. Paul’s charge in 2 Timothy 4:2-3 speaks directly to our moment: “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage – with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.”
As Christians, we are called to be both discerning and gracious. Holding to truth does not mean becoming harsh or argumentative. It means speaking truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and living lives that reflect the integrity of our faith.
This may cost us. Being faithful to biblical truth could mean being misunderstood, excluded, or ridiculed. But Jesus reminded us in Matthew 5:11 that we are blessed when people insult us because of Him. When truth is under pressure, the Church must shine brighter, not retreat.
Living truthfully in a world of opinions is not easy – but it is necessary. As we stay rooted in Scripture and led by the Spirit, we will be equipped to stand firm and point others to the truth that sets them free.
