In today’s culture, truth has become subjective. ‘Your truth’ and ‘my truth’ are common phrases, and Christians often find themselves swimming against a current of moral relativism. But God’s truth is not up for debate. Isaiah 40:8 reminds us, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

As followers of Christ, we are called to stand firm in God’s Word even when it makes us unpopular. Paul warned Timothy that “a time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead… they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear” (2 Timothy 4:3). That time is now.

We must not dilute or distort Scripture to fit societal trends. God’s truth, though often countercultural, brings life, freedom, and transformation. Compromising truth might gain approval temporarily, but it weakens our witness and dishonours the Gospel.

Standing firm doesn’t mean being harsh or unloving. Jesus was full of both grace and truth (John 1:14). We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), with humility and compassion. The goal is not to win arguments, but to faithfully represent Christ.

There may be a cost to this. You might be labelled intolerant or close-minded. Friendships could suffer. Opportunities might be lost. But Jesus said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10).

When truth becomes unpopular, don’t panic – stand firm. Hold fast to Scripture. Anchor yourself in prayer and community. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide your words and strengthen your resolve.

The world is hungry for something real. When everything else shifts, the unchanging truth of God remains a solid foundation. Let your life be rooted in it – boldly, lovingly, and consistently.
