One of the most significant aspects of the Christian walk is prayer. It’s our direct line to God, a means of communicating with the Creator of the universe. Yet, many Christians struggle with prayer – whether it’s the busyness of life, distractions, or simply not knowing what to say.

Jesus taught His disciples about prayer in the well-known Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13). This prayer is simple, yet profound. It begins with acknowledging God’s holiness: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name” (Matthew 6:9). It shifts our focus away from our own desires and onto God’s greatness and sovereignty.

Prayer is about relationship, not just requests. It’s about spending time with God, listening to His voice, and aligning our hearts with His will. Jesus encourages us to pray with persistence, saying, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). Prayer is an invitation to grow in intimacy with God, to trust Him with our needs, and to align ourselves with His purposes.

The power of prayer lies in its simplicity. You don’t need elaborate words or perfect theology. God listens to your heart. Even when you don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for you (Romans 8:26).

In moments of doubt, fear, or joy, prayer is our refuge. It centres our hearts and minds on God’s truth. It reminds us that we are never alone and that we can bring every worry, joy, and question to Him.

If you struggle with prayer, start small. Find a quiet place. Speak honestly to God. Let Him know what’s on your heart. Trust that He hears you.
