Words carry immense power. They can build up or tear down, encourage or wound, bring hope or despair. As followers of Christ, we are called to speak life, to use words in a way that glorifies God and edifies those around us.
Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
What we say matters. A single word of encouragement can lift someone’s spirit, while a careless remark can leave lasting damage. That is why Scripture calls us to be intentional with our speech.
Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Whether in our homes, workplaces, or friendships, our words should reflect the love of Christ. Jesus Himself demonstrated the power of life-giving words. He spoke peace to the storm, healing to the sick, and hope to the weary. His words brought transformation.
As His disciples, we are called to do the same – to speak truth with love, to encourage the discouraged, and to reflect His grace in every conversation.
James 1:19 reminds us to be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Before we speak, we should ask ourselves: Will this glorify God? Will it build someone up? Will it reflect the love of Christ? When we use our words wisely, we become instruments of His grace, speaking life into a world that desperately needs it.
