Surrender is not a one-time event in the Christian life – it’s a daily choice. In a culture that tells us to chase control, personal freedom, and self-expression, Jesus calls us to something radically different: a life laid down.

Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23). That word ‘daily’ is key. Surrender isn’t just about big moments of faith; it’s about the small, everyday decisions to yield our will to His.

Surrender means letting go of our need to always be right. It means trusting God when things don’t make sense. It means saying, “Not my will, but Yours be done” – even when it costs us something.

Paul models this beautifully: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” (Galatians 2:20). His old self – his pride, ambitions, and past – were nailed to the cross. What remained was a life shaped and empowered by Jesus.

Daily surrender might look like:

  • Choosing kindness when anger feels justified.
  • Forgiving someone who hasn’t apologized.
  • Saying no to sin, even when no one is watching.
  • Following God’s prompt to speak or serve, even when it’s inconvenient.

It’s not easy. In fact, it’s impossible in our own strength. That’s why we need the Holy Spirit. As we abide in Christ, He gives us the grace and strength to surrender again – and again.

The world says surrender is weak. But in God’s kingdom, it’s the gateway to power. “When I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10). The less of us there is, the more of Christ can shine through.

Surrender doesn’t shrink us – it frees us. It makes room for God to do what only He can do.

Start each day with this simple prayer: “Lord, I give You my plans, my thoughts, my emotions, and my will. Lead me.” It may not change your circumstances, but it will change your heart – and that’s where true transformation begins.
