John 4:10  Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

Just think about how you would feel if you found out later that you were given a gift from God that you never opened. Wouldn’t that be tragic?  I believe that many gifts that were offered to us but were never opened will become clear to us in eternity.  At Samaria’s Jacob’s well, Jesus met a lady and gave her a gift that would alter her life forever!

Like us now, she had no idea that she had that gift.  He was aware of her deep desire for acceptance and affection that was unwavering.  Nothing quenched the thirst that consumed her.  Over and over, her need for affection left her feeling empty and alone in the sweltering sun at the well.  Seeing past her immediate needs to her deepest wants, Jesus spoke these amazing words:

John 4:13–14   “Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Jesus gave her the gift of eternal life, a clean slate with forgiveness, and a close relationship with the living God! He also offered her the gift of living water! What a blessing!

He extends the same kindness to me and you now!  You can start over now!  You don’t have to keep sipping from an unsatisfactory well!  The true fulfilment we get is realising our value in Christ!  Your soul can only be satisfied by Jesus.  When offered such an unimaginable gift, this woman responded immediately:

John 4:15   “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

What would you say in response?

Has God given you the gift that is intended for you?

Would you come to Christ, the source of living water, and let Him quench your thirst?
