High in the mountains, near the source of a great river, there once lived an old man known as The Keeper of the Spring. His job was simple, but essential. He quietly walked through the forest, clearing fallen leaves, removing debris, and making sure nothing blocked the pure water flowing from the mountain springs.

For years, the river remained clear and beautiful. The townspeople downstream drank from it, used it for irrigation, and enjoyed its refreshing coolness.

One day, the town council decided they no longer needed the old man. “Why pay him? We never see him working anyway,” they said. So, they let him go.

At first, nothing seemed to change. But as months passed, people noticed the water had become murky. Debris clogged the flow. The river no longer sparkled, and disease began spreading in the town. Realizing their mistake, the leaders searched for the old man and begged him to return.

Faithful as ever, he went back to his task. In time, the river became clean again, bringing life and health to all.

Like The Keeper of the Spring, God calls us to be faithful, even when no one sees or appreciates our work. Jesus said:

Luke 16:10  “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”

Many people long to do great things for God, but true greatness begins in faithfulness to small things – prayer, kindness, honesty, and integrity. We may think our daily actions don’t matter, but they do. Just as the Keeper’s work affected the entire town, our faithfulness impacts others in ways we may never see. Paul reminds us:

Galatians 6:9  “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Even when we feel unnoticed or unappreciated, God sees our faithfulness. He honours those who serve Him with diligence.

Are you faithfully tending the “spring” God has entrusted to you? Maybe it’s your family, your workplace, or a quiet ministry no one else notices. Whatever it is, keep going.

Because one day, you will see that your faithfulness has brought life to many. And most importantly, God will say, Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:23).
