A young boy ran excitedly across a field, gripping a spool of string as his kite soared high into the sky. The wind was strong, lifting the kite higher and higher. The boy laughed with delight, watching it dance against the blue sky.

Then, a thought crossed his mind. “What if the string is holding the kite back? If I cut it, the kite will be completely free to fly even higher!”

Without hesitation, he let go of the string. For a moment, the kite drifted higher – but then, without the tension to anchor it, the wind tossed it uncontrollably. It wobbled, dipped, and finally tumbled to the ground, tangled and broken.

The boy stood in shock. What he thought would bring more freedom had actually caused the kite to crash.

Many people think that following God’s ways is restrictive, like the string holding the kite. They want to live however they please, believing that true freedom comes from having no limits. But just as the kite needed the string to stay steady in the wind, we need God’s guidance to truly flourish. Jesus said:

John 8:32  “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

True freedom is not about doing whatever we want – it’s about living within God’s design, where we are protected, fulfilled, and able to thrive.

The Bible gives us instructions for life – not to control us, but to keep us safe and help us live abundantly.

  • God’s commands are like the string, keeping us steady (Psalm 119:105).
  • His discipline refines us, not to harm us, but to shape us (Hebrews 12:11).
  • His wisdom protects us from destruction (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Without God’s guidance, we may think we are soaring, but in reality, we are drifting toward a fall.

The world tells us that freedom means doing whatever feels right. But Jesus offers a greater freedom – the kind that keeps us from crashing.

John 8:36   “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

When we submit to God, we don’t lose freedom – we gain it. We are free from sin, free from guilt, and free to become all that He created us to be.

Are you tempted to cut the string, thinking it will lead to greater freedom? Remember the kite. Without the string, it didn’t soar – it crashed.

God’s boundaries are not meant to hold you back, but to help you rise higher. Trust Him, stay connected to His truth, and experience the true freedom that only He can give.
