Words hold incredible power.
Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
In a world filled with negativity, gossip, and criticism, Christians are called to use their words to build up rather than tear down. Speaking life must be intentional. Before we speak, we can ask ourselves: Does this encourage? Does it reflect God’s love? Does it honour the person I’m speaking to or about? Paul provides a clear guideline:
Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.”
This principle extends to how we speak about ourselves. Negative self-talk can undermine our identity in Christ. Instead, we should affirm the truth of who we are as God’s beloved children, created in His image and purposefully designed.
In a digital age, the power of words extends to what we post online. Social media can be a platform for encouragement or a breeding ground for division. As followers of Christ, we have the opportunity to shine His light through what we say and share.
Our words have the potential to bring healing, hope, and encouragement. By choosing to speak life, we reflect the heart of God in a world desperately in need of His love.
