Christmas may have passed, but the spirit of giving doesn’t have to end. This week we have a great opportunity to reflect on how we can continue to embody generosity, not just during the holiday season but throughout the year.

2 Corinthians 9:7  “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

By continuing to give freely and joyfully, we reflect God’s love and honour the true spirit of Christmas.

Why generosity matters all year long …

Jesus’ life was one of continual generosity. He gave His time, compassion, wisdom, and ultimately, His life for us. This example calls us to follow in His footsteps, sharing our resources and ourselves with those around us.

Acts 20:35  “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Giving isn’t just about meeting material needs; it’s an act of love that strengthens our connection to God and to each other. Generosity transforms us from within, helping us to see beyond our own needs and look for ways to bless others. This is especially important after Christmas when we might feel tempted to focus on what we received or what we want. By choosing generosity, we keep our hearts aligned with Christ’s love and purpose.

Practical ways to keep giving …

Generosity doesn’t have to be extravagant or costly; it can be as simple as offering our time, encouragement, or support. Consider these ways to keep the spirit of giving alive:

Donate: After Christmas, many people donate unused or gently used items. Sharing with those in need can be a meaningful way to bless others.

Volunteer: As the holiday rush slows, many organizations still need help. Offering a few hours of time to a local shelter, food pantry, or church can make a big difference.

Encourage:Write a note or message to someone who might be struggling, letting them know they are valued and loved. A small gesture of encouragement can have a lasting impact.

Through these actions, we demonstrate the love of Christ, allowing the spirit of Christmas to shine even after the holiday has ended

Giving from a grateful heart …

True generosity flows from a grateful heart. When we recognize the abundance of God’s blessings in our lives, we’re inspired to share with others. 1

Thessalonians 5:18  “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Gratitude fuels generosity, helping us give cheerfully and freely. Reflecting on God’s gifts fills our hearts with joy, allowing us to give without hesitation. By practicing gratitude daily, we stay connected to God’s love and remain open to opportunities to bless others, knowing that He provides for all our needs.

Continuing the Christmas spirit of giving …

The joy of Christmas is found in giving, and this spirit doesn’t have to end on December 25. By choosing generosity as a lifestyle, we honour Jesus’ example and reflect His love. Let’s embrace the opportunity to give, serve, and bless others beyond the holiday, keeping the light of Christ shining in all we do.

As we move into the new year, may we carry the spirit of Christmas giving in our hearts, allowing it to shape us and bring joy to those around us.
