There are seasons when we feel unseen – faithfully serving, praying, loving, working, yet sensing no progress, recognition, or change. Perhaps you have poured yourself into ministry with little fruit, prayed for someone who remains unchanged, or cared quietly for family while others move on to celebrated callings. In these hidden places, it’s easy to believe the lie: God has forgotten me. But Scripture assures us – He has not.

Hagar, alone in the wilderness, felt cast aside – a servant, pregnant and abandoned. Yet there, God met her. She called Him El Roi “the God who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13). Before her circumstances changed, she was given a gift: the assurance that she was not invisible to God. You may feel forgotten by people – but you are fully seen by God.

Joseph, sold by his brothers and unjustly imprisoned, spent years in obscurity. Scripture does not report visions or assurances during that time – just faithful endurance. Yet repeatedly we read, “The Lord was with Joseph.” (Genesis 39:21). God’s presence is not always felt, but it is always true. Joseph’s confinement was not abandonment; it was preparation.

Faithfulness in hidden seasons is precious to God. Paul wrote, “Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58). Notice – not in vain. God wastes nothing, even if others do not see it. The widow who gave two coins was not seen by the crowd – but she was seen by Jesus.

Our culture measures success by visibility and results. God measures faithfulness by obedience and love. Sometimes the holiest work is done in quiet – caring for the ill, mentoring one soul, interceding in prayer, raising children, showing up again and again. Heaven records what earth overlooks.

Still, feeling forgotten can be painful. Bring that ache honestly to God. The psalmist cried, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1). But he ends with trust: “But I trust in your unfailing love.” Faith does not deny the feeling – it anchors beyond it.

In such times, community matters. Share your burden with a brother or sister. Let someone remind you of truth: You are seen. You are valued. You are needed. The body of Christ is designed to notice what the world ignores.

And remember – God Himself chose hiddenness. Jesus spent most of His life in Nazareth, unremarkable in the eyes of the world. No crowds, no miracles – just faithfulness. The ordinary years were not wasted; they were the foundation of His mission.

If you feel forgotten today, hear this: God sees. God remembers. God rewards. He is not unjust; He will not forget the love you have shown Him (Hebrews 6:10). One day, what is done in secret will be honoured openly – not with earthly applause, but with the voice that matters most: Well done, good and faithful servant.
