Job 23:14  “So He will do to me whatever He has planned. He controls my destiny.”

Like Moses, a lot of us have fallen for the false propaganda that says our past excludes us from God’s plan for our life.  Moses had a terrible history of failure.  A deep calling had been placed upon his life.  His name itself meant “to draw out,” or “to deliver.”  It was his fate.  However, he became a wanted man for murder when he intervened to save an Israelite who was being mistreated by an Egyptian!

After running out into the desert, Moses would spend the next forty years hiding and being sought after!  He was convinced his past disqualified him.  He began to believe a common lie that paralyzes so many of us: My failures define my future.

How many times has failure prevented you from trusting God and taking fearless steps towards the destiny He has planned for you?  Years later, in the desert, Moses felt fear when God asked him to return to Egypt and save the Israelites. If we accept the deception, our fear of failing again will come to define our destiny. Fear of failure results from having the wrong focus.

Exodus 3:11  “Who am I to come before Pharaoh? asked Moses.  For whom am I to lead the Israelites out of Egypt?”

Where was his attention?  Our anxieties cause us to concentrate on our shortcomings, shortcomings, and limits.  God answered Moses in a way that caused him to turn from fear to faith.  “God replied to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’”

Exodus 3:14  God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

Moses was asking the wrong question. It’s not a matter of who I am, but who God is that determines my future!  If we want to shift our focus from fear to faith, we must get our eyes off of who we are and begin to see Who God is! Then we can be set free by the truth: My God determines my destiny!

Give your future to God if you want to be free of the worries that have prevented you from moving forward.  Your fate is decided by him!  God tells you that “I AM your strength” if you need it.  God says, “I AM your provision,” if you need it.  “I AM your peace,” God declares, if you need it.  Your focus will either draw you to your own insecurity or to God’s strength.

Where is your focus right now?  Are you letting your previous mistakes and anxieties dictate how you will live today?  Give them over to God, and ask Him to change your focus to Who He is and what He is capable of. If you allow Him, He will decide your fate in spite of your history and past failures. He’ll transform your brokenness and weakness into a message of hope and purpose!
