Matthew 5:14-15   “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”

If we are the light of the world as Jesus said, where does that light come from?  John answers that question in his gospel:

John 1:4  “In Him (Christ) was life, and that life was the light of men.”

According to John, we need to live the life of Christ if we want the light to shine in our lives.  Our lives will be illuminated by His life when He truly dwells within us!  Like a light, we cannot shine until we are connected to a power source.  It is only via His life within us that we may shine. The power for His light to shine through us in a dark world comes from His life within us.

The most likely cause of darkness in your environment and lack of light in your life is a broken connection.  You have the ability to illuminate your surroundings when you draw near to Christ and share His life.

Do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ? Have you surrendered your darkness to His light? If not, there is an easy fix.  Give yourself over to the life of Christ.  Acknowledging the darkness in your surroundings and your need for Him, receive Him by faith. Ask Him to enter your life and turn from that darkness to the light of His life.

John 1:12-13   “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

Take up His life now, and let Him light up your world!  This is our calling and out destiny as followers of Christ:

Philippians 2:15  “… so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky ..”
